Si AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino nangulo sa activation ceremony niadtong Biyernes, Hunyo 24, 2022, sa AFP General Headquarters uban sa taas nga AFP leadership.
Si Lieutenant Colonel Rene Giroy sa Philippine Army maoy napili nga unang group commander sa VPSPG.
“The AFP saw it fitting to provide the Office of the Vice President a dedicated unit that shall ensure the safety and security of the second-highest elected official in the country,” matod ni Centino.
Ang VPSPG maoy kanhi Vice-Presidential Security Detachment nga ubos sa Presidential Security Group.
Uban sa iyang activation, ang VPSPG karon usa ka laing unit ug pangulohan kini sa opisyal nga dunay ranggo nga colonel o Navy captain.
“I am confident that the newly-designated acting VPSPG Commander and the rest of the Officers and Enlisted Personnel entrusted to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the Vice President and her family shall perform their responsibilities to the best of their abilities,” matod ni Centino.
Sa pamahayag, si Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio, kinsa usa ka Philippine Army reserve officer sa ranggo nga colonel, nipadayag sa iyang kalipay ni Department of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana ug Centino sa pagsanong sa iyang hangyo nga dunay laing unit gawas sa Presidential Security Group.
“The activation of the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) is commendable as it will resolve the matter of continuity in security for all vice presidents of the Philippines,” matod niya.
“This AFP initiative also highlights the importance of having an independent group that will provide all Philippine vice presidents with the necessary security and protection. That foresight demonstrated in this activation was likewise highly laudable — that it may be expected to solve the challenges if, in future elections, the vice president and the president face the misfortune of having strained relations,” dugang ni Sara.
